The Finnish manufacturer of motor boats, Saxdor Yachts, has started the construction of a new production hall in Ełk. The estimated cost of the investment is PLN 36 million.

The Saxdor Shipyard, operating in Ełk since 2019, is entering a new stage of development thanks to the investment in a new production hall worth PLN 36 million.

The investment carried out by the Finnish leader in the production of motor yachts with a production line in Poland, in cooperation with the supervisory team of APP Projekt and the construction company PWHale from Ełk, will be located in Ełk at Przemysłowa Street. The groundworks on the investment plot began in November 2021, and their completion is planned for October 2022.

The expansion of the Saxdor Shipyard, which currently employs 250 people, is to create over 300 new jobs in the Masurian region, both for manual workers and highly qualified specialists in the field of yacht construction.

An advantage for future employees living outside Ełk may be the convenient location of the new building near the Via Baltica communication junction, which is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2022, at the same time as the completion of the hall.

“Strengthening the company’s position on a local scale is just as important to us as foreign expansion,” said Michał Bendig, General Manager of Saxdor Yachts in Poland. “We are an international company, but we feel part of the local community, which is why we decided to cooperate with a contractor from Ełk on our new project. Promoting local businesses among Saxdor Shipyard employees has also been part of the company’s policy from the beginning of our operations, ”added Bendig.

The new investment and development of Saxdor Yachts’ current production lines would not have been possible without the cooperation between the company and the Ełk City Hall and the Suwałki Special Economic Zone (SSSE), which created favourable conditions for further projects.

Saxdor Yachts’ ambition is to produce boats using modern methods, with the highest level of efficiency and quality of the production process, and the new shipyard is to enable the company to do so. The construction plans assume the automation of production processes, and the construction design reflects the assumptions of the company’s environmental policy and current European requirements in the field of environmental impact. A number of improvements, such as the installation of the most modern ventilation systems, will positively affect the quality of working conditions for production workers. The Saxdor Yachts company, founded by the renowned Finnish yacht designer Sakari Mattila, is not his first project in this part of Poland. “The success of the previous brands that we created as a result of Finnish-Polish cooperation made me realize the size of the industry’s potential in the Warmian-Masurian region,” said Sakari Mattila, commenting on the success of his newest company. “Now my full attention is focused on the development of the Saxdor brand and I am glad that I was able to engage top-class specialists with a great track record for this project. Saxdor brings together the best of our experience so far, and over the past two years we have managed to prove that we are destined for success,” Mattila added.

The Saxdor Shipyard in Ełk (Elite Shipyard Sp.z o.o.) is part of the Saxdor Yachts company based in Helsinki. After two years of operation, Saxdor’s yacht distribution network covers more than 40 domestic markets on five continents. Saxdor, as the first Scandinavian brand, also entered the American market through cooperation with the largest network of local MarineMax dealers in less than two years since its debut. In the near future, the company plans to start producing boats for the American market in the United States.

“Extremely dynamic growth and rapid international expansion are two factors that distinguish the Saxdor brand from its competitors around the world,” said Erna Rusi, CEO of Saxdor Yachts. “We are proud that we have managed to combine the best elements of Polish-Finnish cooperation in order to obtain a high-quality product. The new shipyard, in which we hope to start production in 2022, will allow us to develop even more, ”added Rusi.
